Your Generosity Gave Phillip A Second Chance.
This winter, Phillip and his mother spent two months in intensive care. Phillip was on mechanical ventilation. As a result, he partially lost his ability to swallow and began to lose weight. He needed surgery and a gastrostomy (feeding tube) placed in his stomach to stop the weight loss. His mother had already spent all of their money on medications, and the doctors sent them home until they could afford the gastrostomy surgery.
When they returned home, a surprise awaited them: a power station that MUCH had purchased for them. Dr. Natalia’s husband helped Phillip’s mother connect it and taught her how to use the equipment. Currently, the city of Chornomorsk has electricity for only six hours a day—three hours, then a long break, then three hours more. Thanks to the power station, Phillip’s mother can now puree food and use a device to clear his lungs of phlegm. The power station provides electricity for several low-wattage devices that make life easier for both Phillip and his mother.
The second piece of good news is that MUCH has purchased a gastrostomy for Phillip, and next week the doctors will be able to perform the operation and install it.
