The Russians bombed the Kakhovka Dam in June 2023. The flooding caused the village of Afanasivka to become an island. Lower portions of the village received greater water damage. Thirty houses were left in need of extensive repair and heating and cooking equipment. Last year, MUCH provided wood heating stoves and briquets to help these people make it through the winter.
Sveta and I visited Afanasivka to evaluate the water damage, as high as six feet in some houses. After investigating the damage and having lengthy discussions with the villagers, it was determined that twenty houses needed extreme repair. We decided to begin with five houses that all have similar construction needs. They need our help.
Before we could get the second delivery of materials ordered and shipped from a city nearby, the materials company was bombed. The company set up a makeshift store to take orders. You can’t stop Ukrainians!
Now we can place the next material order for delivery to the village.
Sveta and I have begun working on rebuilding homes in the village, which will keep everyone busy for some time to come. Please stay tuned to our updates and website to follow our progress. God is working through the many people who make themselves available. let’s help Ukrainians!
