Make Christmas Last all Year with Massage Therapy
In Ukraine, children with disabilities have few opportunities to receive massage from a therapist trained specifically for their needs. In 2004, MUCH provided a clinic to meet those needs in Illichevsk, southwestern Ukraine. Currently, we provide massage therapy for 12 children each month. For these children, the greatest Christmas gift that they can receive is better health through massage therapy. The cost of everything is skyrocketing because of the Russian aggression. Our programs will cost more this year. With your contribution, you can provide funding for a month’s worth of massage for a child for only $57. What a Christmas gift that would be!
In 2012, MUCH began a massage therapy program at the orphanage for children with disabilities in Dobromel, northwestern Ukraine. Four children per month receive the gift of massage therapy for the cost of $228. Imagine that you helped make this happen!
We need your help to continue our existing programs. Our donations declined last year and we are counting on our Christmas Fund raiser to continue our programs next year.

Sveta’s Journey
While at the Dobromel Orphanage, we visited the computer class. We saw that the children were more advanced than during our last visit. It was exciting to watch them. They want to learn computer more than any other class. Here is one example.
Thirteen-year-old Sasha is hard at work searching the keyboard, copying text from a journal that he chose from the cabinet. The children in his group were called to lunch, but he would not go. He continued to type with one finger, trying to memorize the location of each letter. This was very laborious as he looked from the text to the keyboard, and back to the text, doing his best to remember where each letter was located on the keyboard.
I asked him to remember one word at a time and concentrate on the keyboard so as not to be distracted by every letter. It helped, and it proceeded a little faster. Then, I explained to Sasha that he could keep his work in a folder on the computer desktop. He was very happy about this. His work would not be lost. In the afternoon or tomorrow, he would be able to continue where he stopped. We wrote his name on the new folder. He was very happy. His face shone with joy and was red from the hard work. This work earned him the joy, satisfaction, and confidence in his new abilities.
I felt very pleased as I watched this boy. Each age and mental level of development requires a special approach. Volodya, the computer teacher, will pay special attention to Sasha. Without your support, Sasha and others like him would not be learning the computer skills essential for life in this century. Thank you for your support of this program.
When our little friend Gene heard we were coming to visit, he tried to find the beautiful sweater that we gave him on our last visit. It was one of may that were knitted by women in Illichevsk. Unable to find it, he put on the cherry jacket. He looked very impressive.
It is difficult not to become emotionally attached to children who hunger for your attention. We try to give equal attention to all children. Many dream of being adopted, although for Mark and me, this is not possible. Even so, Gene thought of us as potentially adoptive parents.
During the therapeutic massage, Mark and I talked with Gene. He is a very positive and trusting boy. He is special and different from other children his age and has an unusual way of thinking.
Massage treatment has brought excellent results for Gene. His back has become smoother and his conversational speech has improved!
